2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, not least charities. It has not been possible to hold fundraising events in the usual way so Newbury RDA were so grateful to be offered an opportunity to raise some money in October.
Eugene Smit from Yattendon Stores very kindly offered to provide an area outside the village shop where we could hold a cake sale. We chose to do this at the beginning of October, a time when we traditionally have organised our Autumn Fair, well known in the district and usually the major fundraising event for the year.
The volunteers and friends of Newbury RDA rallied round and produced a magnificent array of delicious home cooked produce, cakes, jams, pickles and chutneys. Mugs, Jugs and More also attended with an attractive display of Polish blue and white pottery, a favourite stall at the Autumn Fair.
The morning dawned bright and clear and the cake stall was inundated with supporters. Everything was sold and the magnificent total of £1,208 was raised. This included a raffle, prize kindly donated by Yattendon Stores, and two anonymous and generous donations.
Many thanks to all who helped, primarily Georgie Woods, Penny Norris, Sally Sanderson and Eugene Smit.
We are hoping to hold another cake sale in the spring when we also plan to have a plant stall of homegrown seedlings.
